Kasketenn means ‘hat’ in Breton, the native language of the Bretagne region (Brittany in English) on the western coast of France. This hat and the yarn it is made from were both born and raised in Bretagne. Inspired by the sailing culture of the region, the Kasketenn is a perfect hat for those first cool days of autumn or just when it starts to warm up in spring. For milder climates, it is warm enough for all winter long. Made from Bouclelaine’s gorgeous Merinos Angora 2-ply yarn in a fingering weight, this quick knit is a great way to add a lot of color in one simple project to your wardrobe. There are four hat options included in the pattern: a striped or solid hat in a men’s size and a striped or solid hat in a women’s size. The men’s option has a stretchier brim with a closer, scull cap style. The women’s option is tighter around the brim with a longer body to fit more hair (and to avoid the dreaded ‘hat hair’). Make one or make all four, each option is distinct enough to have four different styles of hat (I have one of each!). Click here to get your free pattern.
